The new surgery occupies a 4-storey grade II listed former savings bank in the centre of Reading. The bank, distinguished by its Italianate facade, has been converted into a four-doctor surgery with supporting treatment facilities.

A design strategy evolved to retain the floors and resolve the relationship with the existing facade by the inclusion of an atrium. By introducing a second fully glazed facade to the accommodation the atrium provides a focus to the waiting room and floods the existing walls with south light. The remainder of the building has been gutted and re-planned with a new circulation system, which is orientated to reinforce a strategy of introducing natural light into the heart of the building.

The interior modifications are distinguished by the use of birch ply and hardwood cladding.
